Community forum targets fresh food famine

A food forum was held Saturday at the First Unitarian Universalist Church of Youngstown to address the lack of nutritious foods available near campus and in the Wick Park neighborhood.

Representatives from Grow Youngstown CSA, Lake-to-River Food Hub, Wick Park Neighborhood Association, Mahoning Valley Organizing Collaborative and Youngstown State University Student Government Association attended the meeting.

Kitchen Incubator Coming to Youngstown

The city of Youngstown is about to house a second business incubator, but this one is geared at bringing more delicious food choices to the Valley.

Jim Converse is pioneering what he is calling a kitchen incubator, aiming to help food entrepreneurs by giving them a place to cook their way into the future.

Great News!  USDA  Farm Market Promotion Program awards $75,000 grant for Ohio's
Lake-To-River Food Co-operative's project- "Ramp Up: Lake-To-River Food Cooperative in Food Deserts".

Food Co-Op Provides Schools With Fruit

The Lake-To-River Food Cooperative has matched up local growers to four school districts in Mahoning County. The Austintown, Youngstown, Boardman and Canfield school districts receive 12 to 15 cases of apples from area orchards each week.     

 

The co-op also is selling locally grown fruit to St. Elizabeth Health Center.
